چکیده

Unorganized callus and leaf/root-differentiating callus cultures of Pimpinella major have been established in liquid nutrient medium. Their capacity to accumulate rare phenylpropa noids such as epoxy-pseudoisoeugenol tiglate, epoxy-anol tiglate and anol tiglate was com pared with that of seedlings and whole plants. The unorganized callus cultures were not able to accumulate any phenylpropanoids. In comparison, the leaf/root-differentiating callus culture promoted the accumulation of epoxy-pseudoisoeugenol tiglate (up to 90 mg/100 g fr.wt.) but not that of anol-derivatives. The accumulated amount of EPT in PMD-SH was comparable with that in plant seedlings.

Production and Accumulation of Phenylpropanoids in Tissue and Organ Cultures of Pimpinella anisum

Recently we reported the comparative studies on the production and accumulation of phenylpropanoids in plants and in cell cultures of anise [1, 2]. It was shown that cell cultures did not produce anethole, the main constituent in the fruit oil of anise, but instead regularly epoxy-pseudoisoeugenol(2-methylbutyrate). We first identified this unusually substituted phenylpropanoid in the root of P...

An in vivo and in vitro investigation on hepatoprotective effects of Pimpinella anisum seed essential oil and extracts against carbon tetrachloride-induced toxicity

Objective(s):  Protective effects of different extracts and essential oil from Pimpinella anisum           L. seeds were examined against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced toxicity. The parameters such as serum transaminases, lactate dehydrogenase activity, hepatic glutathione content, liver lipid peroxidation and histopathological changes of liver were assessed as toxicity markers. In the in...

Effect of Some Phytohormones on Podophyllotoxin Production in Cell and Plantlets Cultures of Linum album

The natural lignan podophyllotoxin, a dimerized product of two phenylpropanoid moieties which occurs in a few plant species, is a pharmacologically important compound for its anticancer activities. Optimization of the in vitro cultures might lead to a renewable source of lignans for medicinal uses. In order to maximize efficiency of podophyllotoxin accumulation via in vitro cultures, the effect...

Bio-accumulation of major, trace, and rare earth elements by two Astragalus species grown on Agh-Dareh and Zarshouran gold deposits, Takab, NW Iran

The Agh-Dareh and Zarshouran mines are two known active gold deposits in Takab, NW Iran. In the present study, the potentials of two species of Astragalus (A. microcephalus from Agh-Dareh and A. effusus from Zarshouran mines), as the dominant plants grown in these areas, were assessed for the bio-accumulation of the major, trace, and rare earth elements (REEs). The plant and soil samples were c...

Factors influencing in vitro plant regeneration of Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra L.)

An efficient and reproducible in vitro protocol for largescale multiplication of Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra L.)has been described. Multiple shoots formation was significantly influenced by growth regulators, photoperiod, explant position, season of explant collection and culture passage. Nodal explants were collected atmonthly intervals to initiate in vitro cultures. The hig...
